Purnell quickly made its mark on the landscape of contemporary high watchmaking in 2020 when it debuted the unmistakable Spherion, the world’s fastest triple-axis tourbillon.
To create the record-setting mechanism, Purnell partnered with master watchmaker Eric Coudray, the Mozart of multi-axis tourbillons and winner of the 2012 Prix Gaïa. He invented the Spherion and the Double Spherion, mechanisms found in Purnell’s Escape Primo and Escape II collections.
A world premiere design, the Spherion has three tourbillon cages, each one rotating at a different speed – 8, 16, and 30 seconds. Visually stunning, it is a masterpiece both mechanically and aesthetically. Its futuristic take on the 220-year-old tourbillon upholds Purnell’s vow only to produce tourbillon movements. It’s also a clear expression of Purnell’s unique horological point of view, which focuses more on the future than the past.
This special edition features the innovative Ballon d'Or tourbillon, which is encased inside a golden football that rotates every 30 seconds.
